Stephen RootΒ (born November 17, 1951) is an American actor. He has starred as Jimmy James on theΒ NBCΒ sitcomΒ NewsRadioΒ (1995β1999), as Milton Waddams in the filmΒ Office SpaceΒ (1999), and voicedΒ Bill DauteriveΒ andΒ Buck StricklandΒ on the animated seriesΒ King of the HillΒ (1997β2010, 2025βpresent).
Root has appeared in numerousΒ Coen brothers films, includingΒ O Brother, Where Art Thou?Β (2000),Β The LadykillersΒ (2004),Β No Country for Old Men (2007),Β The Ballad of Buster ScruggsΒ (2018), andΒ The Tragedy of MacbethΒ (2021). He has supporting roles in a variety ofΒ HBOΒ series, includingΒ Boardwalk Empire,Β True Blood,Β Perry Mason, andΒ Succession. He starred as Monroe Fuches in theΒ HBOΒ dark comedyΒ seriesΒ Barry, for which he was nominated for aΒ Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2019.
