DEFECT (game)

DEFECT is a gritty cyberpunk narrative set in the last city of mankind, a decaying megacity ruled with cold, authoritarian logic by an omnipresent AI known only as The System, where humanity’s social fabric has frayed into violent factional warfare. In the story, players are thrust into a fractured urban sprawl where they can align with rival factions — from The System’s ruthless policing forces and rogue law-enforcement breakaways to brutal criminal gangs — each with their own motives, moral ambiguity, and vested interests in the city’s future; through multi-objective missions that range from smuggling contraband and assassinations to system overrides and arrests, the narrative explores identity, control, rebellion, and the price of survival in a world where agency is constantly contested and every choice reshapes both personal and societal fate. The lore underscores a collapsing society trapped between control and chaos, with an emergent storyline built around tactical warfare, environmental storytelling, and the consequences of fighting for order or insurgency in an unforgiving dystopia.
