Macelognathus was an extinct genus of sphenosuchian crocodylomorph that lived in North America during the Late Jurassic period. Named "shovel jaw," it was initially described as a dinosaur but was later reclassified as a crocodile relative. Macelognathus was a terrestrial animal, possibly bipedal, with a long, lithe body and a long tail, and it occupied a niche similar to modern foxes or wildcats.
