Helioscopos is the genus name for a newly described extinct lizard species, Helioscopos dickersonae, from the Late Jurassic period. Discovered in the Morrison Formation of Utah, this "sun-watcher" was an early relative of geckos, notable for its prominent pineal foramen (a "third eye" for sensing light) which suggests it was not primarily nocturnal like many modern geckos.
