Gillian Leigh Andersonย OBE (born August 9, 1968)ย is an American actress, writer, and activist. She is best known for her roles as FBI Special Agentย Dana Scullyย in the sci-fi seriesย The X-Filesย (1993โ2002; 2016โ2018), Lily Bart in the drama filmย The House of Mirth (2000), DSIย Stella Gibsonย in theย BBC/RTรย crime drama seriesย The Fallย (2013โ2016), Jean Milburn in theย Netflixย comedy-drama seriesย Sex Educationย (2019โ2023), andย Margaret Thatcher in theย fourth seasonย of the Netflix drama seriesย The Crownย (2020). She has won twoย Primetime Emmy Awards, twoย Golden Globe Awards, and fourย Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Born inย Chicago, Anderson was raised first inย Londonย and thenย in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She later started her career onstage inย New York City before achieving international recognition for her work onย The X-Files.
