The Incredible Hulk (2009)

Bruce Banner lives in hiding after a failed attempt to end his life reveals the Hulk will always protect him. Months later, Bruce works quietly in Rio de Janeiro, suppressing his emotions while communicating with an online scientist called “Mr. Blue.” When a drop of his gamma-irradiated blood is exposed, General Ross tracks him down and sends Emil Blonsky and a strike team to capture him. Bruce transforms into Hulk and escapes. Bruce returns to Virginia for his research and reunites with Betty Ross, who agrees to help. Ross attacks the university, but Hulk protects Betty before escaping. Bruce and Betty meet “Mr. Blue,” revealed as Dr. Samuel Sterns, who uses an antidote to suppress Hulk but has secretly replicated his blood. Blonsky forces Sterns to inject him, transforming into the monstrous Abomination. Gamma-tainted blood wounds Sterns as Abomination rampages through Harlem. Bruce accepts that Hulk is the only one capable of stopping him. He transforms and battles Abomination through the streets, defeating him with a massive chain. Hearing Betty’s pleas, Hulk spares Blonsky before disappearing into the wilderness. Bruce accepts his curse as his way of protecting others. Post-Credits Scene: General Ross sits alone in a dim bunker bar, drinking after the Harlem disaster. The doors open, and Tony Stark enters in an expensive suit. Ross asks, “Stark. You always wear such expensive suits to a funeral?” Tony replies, “Only when I’m the one arranging the service, General. I hear you’ve had some unusual tech difficulties in Harlem. A bit of a green, oversized problem?” Ross warns him that the military handles its anomalies. Tony says he’s not selling anything—he’s sharing information. They’re assembling a special team of people with unique abilities. Ross asks, “Who is ‘we’?” Tony leans across the bar and says they’re working on an independent initiative, adding that they think his “big guy” would look great on the roster.

Spectacular Spider-Man (2008)

Peter Parker, a brilliant but lonely 15-year-old, is bitten by an experimental spider during a school trip to Oscorp and awakens with superhuman strength, agility, heightened senses, and the ability to cling to walls. After selfishly using his powers for money, Peter lets a thief escape, only for that same criminal to murder Uncle Ben. Devastated, Peter embraces the lesson that great power comes with great responsibility. While balancing school, friendships with Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn, his feelings for Mary Jane, and a photography job at the Daily Bugle, Peter discovers that his biology teacher, Dr. Curt Connors, has transformed into the monstrous Lizard after testing a regenerative serum on himself. Connors plans to spread a mutagenic pathogen and force humanity to evolve. Using his chemistry skills, Peter creates homemade web-shooters, a crude red-and-blue suit, and an antidote. Spider-Man battles the Lizard through his high school and the Queens sewers before their final confrontation near the elevated train tracks. Though badly injured, Peter webs the creature to the infrastructure and injects the antidote, restoring Connors. Afterward, Peter realizes that being Spider-Man means sacrificing his normal life. He commits himself to protecting Queens. Post-Credits Scene: Peter sits in his bedroom when Aunt May tells him someone has arrived. In the living room, Peter finds billionaire Tony Stark sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea. Tony explains that he’s seen footage of a young superhero catching a speeding car in a homemade hoodie and is fascinated by Peter’s wrist technology. He offers Peter a fully funded Stark Industries internship in Malibu with access to advanced laboratories. Peter looks toward a photograph of Uncle Ben and politely declines, saying Queens needs him right now. Tony is surprised but accepts his decision, telling him to keep the neighborhood safe. As Tony leaves, the sound of Iron Man’s thrusters echoes outside.

Iron Man (2008)

Genius billionaire Tony Stark is gravely wounded when terrorists ambush his convoy in Afghanistan using Stark Industries weapons. Imprisoned by the Ten Rings, he is kept alive by fellow captive Ho Yinsen, who creates an electromagnet to stop shrapnel from reaching Tony’s heart. Ordered to build weapons, Tony instead creates a miniature Arc Reactor and a crude armored suit, escaping after Yinsen sacrifices himself. Haunted by what he witnessed, Tony shuts down Stark Industries’ weapons division despite fierce opposition from Obadiah Stane. Determined to protect lives instead of taking them, he perfects advanced armor with the help of J.A.R.V.I.S. and becomes Iron Man, destroying Ten Rings stockpiles and exposing the misuse of Stark technology. Tony uncovers that Stane orchestrated the attack and has been secretly profiting from illegal weapons deals. After stealing Tony’s Arc Reactor, Stane builds the massive Iron Monger armor and attacks Stark Industries. Forced to rely on his original reactor, Tony defeats Iron Monger when Pepper Potts overloads the company’s Arc Reactor, destroying Stane and his armor. Rejecting S.H.I.E.L.D.’s cover story, Tony ends a packed press conference with the words, “I am Iron Man.” Post-Credits Scene: Late that night, Tony returns to his Malibu home to find his security systems bypassed and an eyepatch-wearing stranger waiting in the darkness. The man introduces himself as Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., joking that dealing with gamma accidents, radioactive bug bites, assorted mutants, and now “a spoiled brat who doesn’t play well with others and wants to keep all his toys to himself” has become quite the job. A confused Tony asks who he is, prompting Fury to formally identify himself before revealing that he has come to discuss the Avenger Initiative. When Tony asks, “Well, what are we avenging?” Fury simply smiles and answers, “Whatever the hell we want.”
