James Eugene CarreyΒ (/ΛkΓ¦ri/; born January 17, 1962) is a Canadian and American actor and comedian. Known primarily for his energeticΒ slapstickΒ performances,Β he has received twoΒ Golden Globe Awards, in addition to nominations forΒ BAFTA AwardsΒ andΒ Screen Actors Guild Awards.
After spending the 1980s honing his comedy act and playing supporting roles in films, Carrey gained recognition when he was cast in theΒ FoxΒ sketch comedyΒ seriesΒ In Living ColorΒ (1990β1994). He broke out as a film star after starring in a string of box office hits, such asΒ Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,Β The Mask,Β Dumb and DumberΒ (all 1994),Β Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, andΒ Batman Forever(both 1995).
