Three months has passed since Clark Kent get pulled into the Katwatchie Cave wall and now he returns to Smallville now as a mindless, disembodied, amnesiac vessel named Kal-El and is founded by Chloe's cousin Lois Lane and Dax and his Dragamoz friends whom all having arrived in Smallville to investigate the alleged murder of Chloe Sullivan, but everything cnanged since Clark vanished: Lionel has a enjoying his new life in prison, Jonathan Kent remains in an "irreversible" coma, leaving Martha, Atem and all of his animated animal/dragon friends desperate to use the Black Kryptonite to separate Clark from Kal-El and bring him back. Lex is recovering after being poised by his father travels to Egypt to obtain an ancient statue containing a Kryptonian crystal (the Crystal of Fire), but his health is failing, requiring regular blood purification every 72 hours to survive and Kal-El steals the stone during mid-flight and Lana is in Paris,having spent the summer studying art. She is in a happy relationship with Jason Teague, an American she met after a comical encounter where she kicked him off his Vespa, thinking he was a purse snatcher and during her research on Lana's 17th-century ancestor, Countess Margaret Isobel Thoreaux, for an art history project, Lana touches a symbol on the tomb. This triggers a massive surge of bright energy that flows through her body, knocking her unconscious for 12 hrs.. After the incident, Lana finds herself back in her apartment with no memory of how she got there and her boyfriend looks confused about what happened to her and Lana didn't know how she return to her apartment. Later, after taking a shower, she discovers a strange, glowing symbol—the Mark of Transference—tattooed on her lower back.
