Da'Vine Joy Randolph (/deɪˈvaɪn/; born May 21, 1986) is an American actress. She first gained recognition for her portrayal of psychic Oda Mae Brown in the Broadway production of Ghost (2012), for which she received a nomination at the Tony Awards for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Randolph went on to appear in the films The Angriest Man in Brooklyn (2014) and Office Christmas Party (2016) prior to receiving praise for her roles in Dolemite Is My Name (2019) and The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2020). She received critical acclaim for her performance as a grieving mother in the film The Holdovers (2023), which earned her several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The story revolves around Venice Beach, California artist Sonny Malone, so dissatisfied with his sidewalk mural of the Greek Muses (daughters of Zeus) that he determines his career (and possibly his life) is over. On Mount Olympus, Terpsichore, the youngest, perkiest Muse, convinces her eight sisters to travel to Venice Beach (rising out of the sidewalk mural) to inspire Sonny. Zeus‘s rules require that Muses must always be disguised from mortals. Terpsichore changes her name to something contemporary: “Kira”. Quickly inspired, Sonny decides that he can combine all the arts and “something athletic” all into one spectacular entertainment: a roller disco. But little do they know that two of Clio’s sisters, Melpomene and Calliope, are jealous that Terpsichore is the leader of the Muses and that Zeus had promised “Xanadu” to Terpsichore. They plot to discredit Terpsichore and cause her banishment by tricking her into breaking one of Zeus’s rules: A Muse must not fall in love with a mortal, so they will curse “Kira” and Sonny to fall in love. Also joining in this story is the aging Danny McGuire, a former big-band musician turned construction-company owner who wants to return to his roots by owning a live music venue and we also learn that "Kira" was part of Danny's past. What follows is a musical battle of mortals versus gods, mythical creatures and all-too-human jealousy and struggle.
