X-Men: Evolution is a 2006 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the X-Men. Directed by Gavin Hood and written by David Benioff and Skip Woods, the film stars an ensemble cast led by Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Kelsey Grammer, Ben Foster, Kerr Smith, Rebecca Romijn, Ray Park, Matt Flett, Fairuza Balk, Vinnie Jones and Olivia Williams. X-Men: Evolution is set primarily in 2002 during the war on terror, and focuses on the relationship between Charles Xavier and Max Eisenhardt/Magneto, and the origin of their groups—the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants, respectively.
