Daken was created by writer Daniel Way and artist Steve Dillon and first appeared in Wolverine: Origins #10. Daken is the mutant son of Wolverine and the deceased Itsu. Though he was named Akihiro by his father, the servants and other families of his town secretly referred to the boy as Daken
