Danielle and Rakesh are two Chicago students from two different worlds; Danielle was adopted by a gay couple and had a liberal, happy childhood, while Rakesh has spent his whole life under the thumb of his overbearing, Indian parents, who want him to give up his dreams of music for a more conventional career. When the two families meet by chance on a vacation to Cancun, Rakesh and Danielle strike up a friendship which leads to romance.
