During the gap between Doctor Who: Endgame and Doctor Who: Genesis, Ira Steven Behr wanted to create a Doctor Who-esque series that would revolve around the idea of going to different places and seeing events unfold, but without the use of The Doctor and their TARDIS. So, the anthology series Cold Front was created to fill in the gap of no Doctor Who on television. It would consist of 5 episodes for each season.
