Annie Bennett (alt: "Annie Warbucks," "Annie Bennett-Warbucks," "Annie Stacks") is a ten-year-old orphan girl. Her distinguishing physical characteristics are auburn curly locks, a red dress and vacant circles for eyes. Her catchphrases are "Gee whiskers" and "Leapin' lizards!" Annie is a plucky, generous, compassionate, and optimistic youngster who can hold her own against bullies, and has a strong and intuitive sense of right and wrong.
The original musical is set in the 1930s, though one film adaptation takes place in 2014. She has traditionally been represented as Irish, though later adaptations have portrayed her as Black.
