Jonathan "John" Brown, also known as Inspector Gadget, is a fictional character and the titular protagonist of the eponymous franchise of the same name. He is a cyborg police inspector who despite being brave, well-intentioned and laden with many gadgets in his body (that often malfunction), is frequently absent-minded and clueless due to him bungling his cases and gets himself into danger, only escaping from trouble and completing his missions with sheer dumb luck.
A policeman by nature, he is a caring family man that often takes risks to protect his niece Penny and their dog Brain, and has a firm disbelief in the supernatural.
Gadget's idiocy extends to the point of where he often mistakes good guys for bad guys and vice versa while investigating cases of the criminal organization M.A.D., led by the nefarious Dr. Claw.
