He loves his father without reservation, offers to bring him beers, gives enthusiastic thumbs up, and pedals after Hugo on a BMX bike far too small for him. He is the one innocent soul in the entire story—a boy who survived hell and emerged not angry but kind, and whose oblivious goodness is its own strange, heartbreaking rebuke to the world that made him.
