Tails is an orphaned fox around Sonic’s age from an orphanage near the forest where Sonic grew up and was the first friend he met after leaving it, Tails is a a shy but brilliant kid who for unknown reasons was born with 9 tails instead of 1(resembling a Kitsune) which he can use like a helicopter to take flight for a short time, Tails wears a blue jacket, he was abandoned by his mother at the orphanage after his father died, Tails also has a large wrench that can transform into different tools and machines at any situation
