In 1890s Italy, Felice Sciosciamocca, a man charged with the death penalty for a crime he did not commit, escapes prison with his cellmate Faina and, finding a Turkish traveller who is going to Sorrento for a job, takes his place and pretends to be Turkish. In Sorrento, Felice gets hired by Don Pasquale, who mistakes him for a eunuch, since the real Turk was (Felice, however doesn't know) and makes him the butler of his young, beautiful daughter and his equally young and beautiful second wife.
