The story begins with Joel Calloway, a veteran lawman, discovering a brutalized wagon trail. He finds a lone survivor—a young boy—left as bait by a notorious gang. In his attempt to rescue the boy’s parents, Calloway is captured and thrown into a cell. There, he meets The Pale Man (Vincent), a skeletal prisoner who claims to be "already dead.”
