Batman soon finds himself lost deep into a brutal murder investigation that seems to revolve around a seemingly-fictional children's tale about "The Court Of Owls", a cult of mask-donning murderers who take the corruption and indifferences of Gotham City into their own hands. When Mayor Real's life is placed in danger by the Court's hired assassin, The Talon, Batman must find the connection between the Court, his great-grandfather, and the city itself to find their hideout and put an end to this. But that will be difficult, as a new hired hitman working for Black Mask is also hunting him down, and intends to break him, metaphorically and literally.
