In 1996; a nearly hundred-year-old Rose has been married, remarried, widowed, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She has a Pomeranian dog, Freddie, and a pet goldfish, Ollie. She lives under the care of her granddaughter, Elizabeth "Lizzie" (34), and in her free time collects eccentricities and sculpts pots. However; one day in 1996 she sees an interview with treasure hunter Brock Lovett; who is looking for the Heart of the Ocean, discovering her portrait instead. She travels to the RS Keldysh to tell the story of how she got it.
