Edward John Smith (27 January 1850 – 15 April 1912) is a British naval officer, and the unofficial commodore of the White Star Line; having mastered dozens of vessels. Most notably though, he is a captain of the RMS Titanic; at least for her maiden voyage before he is to go on hiatus. He will also be present as the Captain of the maiden voyages of the Britannic, Gigantic, Heroic and Tyrannic, before his retirement on the final night of Tyrannic's maiden voyage in 1916! Surely nothing could prevent this from happening, right?
