By the film's start, Barbara will now be better established as Batgirl, becoming Batman's main partner due to Nightwing moving. Barbara would be working as an intern at Arkham for her criminology degree. She's the one who uncovers Scarecrow's inhumane experiments on the patients at the Asylum. When caught by Harley and Man-Bat, Barbara gets infected with fear toxin and has a hallucination of being incapacitated as Batgirl and her identity being revealed (mixing elements of Over the Edge and Killing Joke). She overcomes this by grounding herself, using logic to unravel the nightmare. She would then work with Lucius to find an antidote to the Fear Toxin
