Sir Topham Hatt, otherwise known as the Fat Controller is the head railway director and the mayor of the Island of Sodor. He makes sure that all his engines follow the four R's:being reliable, responsible, right on time and Really Useful. He has a wife named Jane, who is better known as Lady Hatt. He also has two grandchildren named Stephen and Bridget. His mother is named Dowager Hatt. He can be strict when dealing with his engines, especially ones like Diesel, but he also tries to be fair too. He's always willing to listen to what the engines have to say. Sometimes one of the engines might have an idea that could improve life on the island. No matter what, the citizens of Sodor love their mayor, and wouldn't have a clue what to do without him.
