The SM Culture Universe (SMCU) is a shared universe produced by SM Entertainment. Aespa was the first project for SMCU: Lee Sooman has mentioned Aespa's storytelling in which artist members in the "real world" and avatar members in the "virtual world" communicate, interact, and grow through the "digital world", an intermediate world between reality and virtual reality.
