The Wraith is a 2026 American vigilante action thriller film written and directed by Gareth Edwards. It is the first installment in the Wraith franchise. The film stars Sydney Sweeney as former US Government assassin Madison "Maddie" Fischbach, alongside Isabel May, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Jon Bernthal, Terry Crews, Taryn Manning, Michael B. Jordan, and Sylvester Stallone. In the film, a girl and her younger sister go on the run from their abusive father, which causes them to seek help from Maddie. The Wraith was released theatrically on December 5th, 2025 after its premiere at London, England on November 24th; it was a financial success at the worldwide box-office, grossing $716 million against a budget of $191 million and a break-even point of $320 million. The film was welcomed positively by audiences, but reviews from critics were mixed, with praise for the visual style, action sequences, originality, the performances of Sweeney, May and Armstrong, direction, storyline, and Hans Zimmer's musical score, but criticism for its screenplay, graphic violence, lack of politics, and long running time of 180 minutes. Many considered Maddie to be one of Sweeney's signature roles, causing this to give the film a strong cult following. A sequel is in development, with Sweeney, May, Armstrong, and Stallone set to reprise their roles.
