The Scarecrow is a gentle, self-deprecating character who desperately believes he lacks a brain, despite consistently demonstrating intelligence, creativity, and problem-solving skills throughout his journey. Constructed from straw and burlap with a painted face, he moves with an awkward, jerky physicality that belies his quick wit and genuine compassion. Despite his humble origins as a farm fixture, he becomes the moral compass of Dorothy's group, offering thoughtful advice and innovative solutions to seemingly impossible obstacles. His greatest internal conflict stems from his desperate desire to prove his worth—not realizing that his very concern about his intelligence is proof of the mind he claims not to possess. He's endearingly vulnerable, prone to self-doubt, yet capable of remarkable bravery when his friends are in danger.
