Nick Chopper is the Tin Woodman, a mechanical man constructed entirely of tin who embarks on a journey to find the Wizard of Oz in hopes of gaining a heart. Once a human woodcutter cursed by a wicked witch's enchantment, Nick was gradually replaced piece by piece with tin until he became fully mechanical. Despite his metallic exterior, he possesses a deeply compassionate and emotional nature, often moved to tears (requiring oil for his joints) by acts of kindness or injustice. Nick is thoughtful, articulate, and serves as the moral compass of the group, constantly questioning whether his tin body prevents him from truly feeling love and compassion. His journey is one of self-discovery, learning that the capacity for kindness and emotion exists within him already. He is loyal, protective of his companions, and carries an axe as both tool and symbol of his former humanity.
