With Wilson Fisk in prison, NYC is spiraling—criminals rise, and the Defenders are blamed for Spider-Man’s death and Fisk’s fall. Only Matt Murdock, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Danny Rand, and Frank Castle remain. Matt learns Fisk placed a hit on him from prison—Bullseye is coming. Meanwhile, a new mercenary appears: Agent Venom. When he holds civilians hostage, Spider-Man returns, revealing he survived thanks to the X-Men. As he confronts Venom, Peter recognizes his voice—Flash Thompson, his old bully. Peter pleads, but Flash fires. Peter webs the gun away and tackles him out the window. In the street, Peter uses sonic webs to weaken the symbiote and separate Flash. As Flash and Peter fight, the Defenders arrive to help. Together, they trap the symbiote in a fire containment box, destroying it. The city cheers—Spider-Man lives, and the Defenders are redeemed. On a rooftop, Daredevil confronts Bullseye, telling him it's over. A shot and a billy-club fly. Both fall. A funeral follows: Peter, Frank, Luke, Danny, Jessica, Elektra, Karen, Foggy, and Nick Fury mourn Matt. In prison, Fisk walks the courtyard—until Flash approaches and kills him with a knife.
