Taking place 6 years after Part 3 in this we see Nick Fury, Matt Murdock, and Luke Cage as they travel to different countries recruiting the old Defenders like Hawkeye, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist to stop Intelligencia who have returned and are now being led by Baron Zemo who in 1944 trapped himself in a super soldier chamber for 79 years and was finally woken up by Arnim Zola whose mind was uploaded into an immortal android. Throughout the movie the team tries and fails to infiltrate Intelligencia and eventually has to turn to an old friend. 4 years ago Spider-Man left the Defenders after Matt confronted him about his more brutal tactics which had become a problem about a year after having the symbiote. Peter being influenced by the symbiote saw this as a threat and got into a fight with Matt which ended in Peter leaving and Punisher taking his side and leaving too. In the present Matt goes and convinces Peter who recently got control back and rarely uses the symbiote anymore to come and help. The movie climaxes with Peter and Matt confronting Zemo who explains to them that his goal is to create the perfect world and the only way to do that is to eliminate all heroes who think they can stop him. It was then revealed that Intelligencia was a cover up and Zemo has brought back Hydra. The movie ends with Zemo releasing a gas into the room as he leaves which knocks out Peter and Matt who are put in a holding facility which takes away Peter's powers and blocks out Matt's senses.
