Following Jean Grey’s death, the X-Men struggle to continue without one of their most powerful members. Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde remain committed to protecting mutants, but the world around them is becoming increasingly hostile. Across America, the charismatic Reverend William Stryker begins a campaign preaching that mutants are an abomination and a threat to humanity. When several mutants are murdered, Stryker turns their deaths into propaganda, fueling fear and hatred across the country. The X-Men discover that Stryker is secretly leading an organization dedicated to identifying and eliminating mutants. His ultimate target is Professor Xavier, whose telepathic abilities Stryker intends to exploit to spread his message on an unprecedented scale. When Xavier is captured, the X-Men are forced to seek help from the last person they ever expected: Magneto. Despite their differences, Erik understands that Stryker’s campaign could trigger an irreversible war between humans and mutants. The X-Men and Magneto launch an assault on Stryker’s headquarters, fighting their way through his forces while trying to rescue Xavier before his powers are turned against the mutant population. In the final confrontation, the team manages to free Xavier and expose Stryker’s crimes, bringing his campaign to an end. But the victory comes at a cost. The world has witnessed the hatred directed toward mutants, and the X-Men realize that defeating one man will not end the fear surrounding them. For Magneto, however, the events only strengthen his belief that humans and mutants may never truly coexist. Post-credit scene: In a ruined building, Magneto searches through the wreckage when Quicksilver suddenly stops him telling him that she’s too unstable and needs help. Behind Pietro, Wanda silently watches.
