a grieving widower orders a robot grandmother for his three children. While two of the children quickly accept their new mechanical mother, the youngest daughter, Anne, initially rejects the robot due to her mother's recent death. After running away and nearly being hit by a van, Anne is saved by the robot, who takes the impact instead. This act of self-sacrifice leads Anne to accept the robot, realizing it won't leave her like her mother did and can provide the love she needs.
