Somehow, after years of near-death encounters with his deadliest enemy, Batman comes to the conclusion that the Joker is actually three separate individuals who are looking for a new candidate to "baptize" into the next Joker. This leads Batman, Batgirl and Red Hood through a series of murders as Batman is forced to face up to his past when his parent's killer becomes involved.
