His name is Kal-el and he comes from the planet Krypton. He was the only survivor of her explosion in a huge cosmic catastrophe when his father, the foresighted Kryptonian scientist Jor-El, sent him into space in a small space capsule. The child lands on Earth, near the town of Smallville, where he is taken in by the childless couple Kent, who live on a lonely farm.
