Because the brothers live near a train station, the basement would occasionally shake every time a loud train goes by, and it’s what caused a huge hole in the wall ever since. Luigi hits his breaking point when the rumbling train makes everything on his daily basis fall apart. He tells Mario they need to fix this giant hole and fill it with what little they have here.
