The Suicide Squad follows Amanda Waller as she assembles two teams of imprisoned metahumans for Task Force X and sends them to the unstable island nation of Corto Maltese. Their mission is to destroy Jötunheim, a Nazi-era laboratory containing the mysterious Project Starfish. Among the team are Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Ratcatcher 2, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man, Harley Quinn, Colonel Rick Flag, and Captain Boomerang. The mission quickly becomes a bloodbath, with Waller treating the operatives as expendable assets. After surviving the initial assault, Flag's team reunites with Bloodsport's group. They discover that Project Starfish is actually a gigantic alien creature called Starro the Conqueror, which has been used in experiments on humans. They also learn that the American government has secretly supported the project and wants the evidence destroyed. The team's divisions eventually explode when Flag obtains a drive containing proof of the government's involvement. Peacemaker reveals that Waller ordered him to destroy the evidence, leading to a confrontation between him and Flag. Despite being allies, Peacemaker kills Rick Flag to complete his mission. When Starro escapes and begins attacking Corto Maltese, the surviving Squad members turn against Waller's orders and fight together. Ratcatcher 2 inspires them to stand against Starro, while Bloodsport delivers the killing shot. Afterward, Bloodsport forces Waller to release the surviving members by threatening to expose the government's involvement.
