After an accident where Lee fell 21 feet from a piece of equipment into the orchestra pit, she was committed to the hospital and removed from the show to prevent further injury. Feeling betrayed as she thought the Spider-Man musical could be her big break, Taymor was given cybernetic enhancements to cover up her injuries and become a supervillain.
