Age 43, a pyromaniac Australian mutant and rival to Iceman. John only cared for one thing in life above all else: money. Drifting around from job to job as a young man, eventually landing a journalism job and becoming a modestly successful author. Eventually, Magneto approached John with a chance to join the Brotherhood in exchange for riches beyond his wildest dreams. John eagerly accepted since Magneto also happened to be a fan of his novels.
