Framed by his former friend Willis Stryker for a crime he didn’t commit and sentenced to imprisonment in Seagate Prison, Carl Lucas volunteered for an experimental procedure that granted him superhuman strength and his signature unbreakable skin. After escaping prison and changing his name to Luke Cage, he began working as a hero for hire, eventually partnering up with fellow superhuman Iron Fist, marrying Jessica Jones, and joining the Defenders.
