This 8-episode prestige mini-series logs the mythic rise and tragic fall of the Elves in Beleriand, adapting the central narrative core of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion. The saga begins in the holy realm of Valinor, where the brilliant but arrogant Elven prince Fëanor captures the divine light of the world in three peerless gems: the Silmarils. When the Dark Lord Morgoth slays the Elven king, destroys the source of global light, and steals the jewels, Fëanor and his sons swear an unbreakable, catastrophic oath of vengeance against anyone who holds them. Defying the gods, Fëanor leads a bloody rebellion and commits a horrific fratricidal kinskilling to steal ships, stranding his noble brother Fingolfin to lead a desperate, frozen trek across a grinding shelf of cosmic ice. Arriving in Middle-earth, the divided Elves launch a centuries-long siege against Morgoth’s industrialized fortress of Angband, establishing pristine but fading kingdoms throughout the lands of Beleriand. The narrative transforms into an epic tragedy as family curses, pride, and military betrayals tear the Elven alliance apart. From the legendary single combat between Fingolfin and Morgoth to the impossible quest of the mortal Man Beren and Elven princess Lúthien to cut a jewel from the Dark Lord's crown, the stakes shift from cosmic warfare to deeply intimate struggles. Ultimately, internal greed and the tragic betrayal of Men lead to the catastrophic Battle of Unnumbered Tears, sparking the collapse of the great hidden strongholds of Nargothrond and Gondolin. With Beleriand on the precipice of absolute destruction, the lone half-elven mariner Eärendil sails west to beg the gods for intervention. The series culminates in the apocalyptic War of Wrath, where the western host shatters the physical continent, casts Morgoth into the Void, and leaves the final survivors to confront the heavy, lingering weight of their generational scars.
