Laura Kearney and Max Brinly travel to the Upstate of New York in the middle of the night to visit Hackett's Quarry, where the two have been hired as summer camp tutors. The two deviate from the road to avoid hitting an unknown creature and crash into the woods. A local sheriff approaches their car and gets suspectful. So he orders Laura and Max to spend the night in a motel near Hackett's Quarry, but the two don't listen to him and go to the summer camp venue. When they arrive, the two break into the basement to investigate something Laura saw, but Max is suddenly attacked by a monster. The sheriff arrives at the camp, seats Laura and shoots the creature in the basement. Two months later, seven camp tutors: Abigail "Abi" Blyg, Dylan Lenivy, Emma Mountebank, Jacob Custos, Kaitlyn Ka, Nicholas "Nick" Furcillo and Ryan Erzahler prepare to leave Hackett's Quarry. They get stuck after their vehicle is sabotaged by Jacob, who wants to spend another night with Emma, with whom he is in love. The owner of the camp, Chris Hackett, asks them to stay locked inside the cabin for the night and tells them that he will return the next morning. The group, however, does not listen to him and decides to organize a party with a bonfire and play Truth or Dare. During the game, Emma is challenged to kiss either Jacob or Nick, Abi's crush. Emma chooses Nick, pushing Abi and Jacob to run away.
