Jonathan Edward Bernthal (/ˈbɜːrnθɔːl/; born September 20, 1976) is an American actor. He came to prominence for portraying Shane Walsh on the AMC horror drama series The Walking Dead (2010–2012; 2018), where he was a starring cast member in the first two seasons. Bernthal achieved further recognition as Frank Castle/The Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in the second season of Daredevil (2016), the spin-off series The Punisher (2017–2019), and the revival series Daredevil: Born Again (2025–present), and Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). For his recurring guest role as restaurant owner Michael Berzatto in the series The Bear (2022–present), he won a Primetime Emmy Award. His film roles include Snitch (2013), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Fury (2014), Sicario (2015), The Accountant (2016), Baby Driver (2017), Wind River (2017), Widows (2018), Ford v Ferrari (2019), King Richard, The Many Saints of Newark (both 2021), Origin (2023), and The Accountant 2 (2025). We follows the return of Frank Castle, the Punisher, to the mean streets of New York City after a period of retirement. Frank Castle is retired for long years, but before he retired, He finded Pete Castiglione, man with same tragedy in life and gave him his identity of The Punisher. Living a quiet life in a run-down apartment building, he befriends some unusual neighbors, including Joan, Mr. Bumpo, and Spacker Dave. However, Frank's peaceful interlude is shattered when he discovers that the criminal underworld is resurfacing in New York City, led by the ruthless mob boss Ma Gnucci. So he is back! As the Punisher resurfaces, he finds himself in the crosshairs of Ma Gnucci's criminal empire. Ma Gnucci, seeking revenge for her family's demise at the hands of the Punisher, becomes a formidable adversary. To complicate matters, Ma Gnucci hires the Russian, an imposing and nearly indestructible enforcer, to eliminate the Punisher. Detective Soap, a member of law enforcement, also becomes entangled in the Punisher's mission, adding another layer of complexity to the story. As the Punisher battles Ma Gnucci and her criminal associates, the storyline explores the psychological and moral dimensions of Frank Castle's character. Themes of justice, vengeance, and the consequences of a violent path are examined, providing depth to the narrative. In the climax, the Punisher faces off against Ma Gnucci, the Russian, and other adversaries in a series of intense and explosive confrontations.
