Michael Stephen Seresin, ONZM, (born 17 July 1942) is a New Zealand cinematographer, best known for several collaborations with the British director Alan Parker. As a film director, Seresin directed the Mickey Rourke film Homeboy. In addition to his work in film, Seresin is a winemaker, having founded Seresin Estate in Marlborough in 1992. The Plague Doctor is a 2022 American science fiction action film directed by Matt Reeves and produced by Guillermo del Toro from a screenplay and story by him and David Twohy. It is the first installment in the S.C.P Foundation film series. It stars Lauren Cohan, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Laurence Fishburne, Tom Hardy, Colin Farrell, Norman Reedus, and Jeremy Irons. The film, based on SCP-049, follows a scientist who abandons her job and takes matters into her own hands by tracking down the Plague Doctor after his escape from the S.C.P Facility. The Plague Doctor opened in theaters on July 16th, 2022; the film received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences, who praised its groundbreaking visual effects, action sequences, cinematography, and Cohan’s performance, with many considering her portrayal of Alice Miller as one of her greatest lead roles, and it was a massive success at the box-office, grossing $698 million worldwide. It became the first science fiction film in years to win all award nominations; it won 6 Academy Awards, including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Supporting Actress (Vera Farmiga), and Best Actress for Cohan, and Irons was awarded with an Oscar Award for Best Villain. A sequel entitled The S.C.P Foundation: Land of Monsters was released on May 16th, 2024.
