After being murdered by Hanna, Gabriel was relegated to be judged and punished for his mother's crimes in limbo, until he is hired by Death, a character who in the previous story showed great interest in the Reaper's actions, to hunt down a specter that escaped from the underworld and is a fugitive on Earth. Reluctant at first, Gabriel accepts, setting the condition for Death that if he hunts the specter, he must destroy his soul to cease to exist.
