The year is 1938 and the world is on the verge of a new world war. Nazi Germany chose as its target Czechoslovakia, where a large German minority lives, which forms the so-called "fifth column" of the Nazis. Germany's goal is to provoke war. But European Western powers are desperate to preserve peace at the cost of betraying their ally.
