In the end, Elmo sits on the edge of a sidewalk, feeling broken after Big Bird is tossed into prison. A Man approaches him, and has a conversation with him, feeling sorrow for the Young Man, he gives Elmo an envelope with his name on it, Elmo looks back up...and the man...is gone.
