Ruth Wilson MBE (born 13 January 1982) is an English actress. She is known for her performances as the eponymous protagonist in Jane Eyre (2006), as Alice Morgan in the BBC psychological crime drama Luther (2010–2013, 2019), as Alison Lockhart in the Showtime drama The Affair (2014–2018), and as the eponymous character in Mrs Wilson (2018). Since 2019, she has portrayed Marisa Coulter in the BBC/HBO fantasy series His Dark Materials, and for this role she won the 2020 BAFTA Cymru Award for Best Actress. Her film credits include The Lone Ranger (2013), Saving Mr. Banks (2013), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016), and Dark River (2017). 965 AD. Odin, Ruler of Asgard wages war against the Frost Giants of Jotunheim and their leader Laufey, to prevent them from ruling the Nine Realms. The Asgardians are triumphant and seize the power of the Frost Giants, the Casket of Ancient Winters. In present day, a ceremony held at the King’s palace as Odin is set to announce his heir to throne, that it being his oldest son Thor. Thor is presented in front of his peers and loved ones, however the ceremony is interrupted as Frost Giants invade Asgard to take back the Casket. While the battle is ended short, Thor goes behind his father’s wishes and leads an invasion of Jotunheim with his young brother Loki and the Warriors to confront Laufey. The confrontation is ended short as Odin intervenes, Thor and his father get into a heated debate to the point where Odin strips Thor’s from his eventual title and vanishes him to Earth as punishment, along with his powers and weapon Mjölnir.
