In 2017, Brazil experienced a period of extreme political polarization, something never before seen in the country's political landscape, largely due to the candidacy of Jair Bolsonaro, perhaps the first Brazilian presidential candidate with a completely right-wing bias. Following Jair's victory the following year, the then-president would have to deal not only with corruption in the Brazilian government, but also with opposition politicians and pressure from his critics.
