The Marshall Legacy is a 2027 American action film directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Taylor Sheridan from a story by Kosinski. Produced by Legendary Pictures and The Stone Quarry and distributed by Lionsgate Films, it is the first installment in the Chronicles of the Marshall Hunts quadrilogy. The film stars Jeremy Renner and Chris Pratt, alongside Rachel Weisz, Isaiah Washington, Michael Shannon, and Chazz Palminteri. Set in 1996, it follows two big game hunters—Clay Marshall (Renner) and Will Hanscom (Pratt)—who gain authorization from the National Park Service to solve a series of carnivore-related slaughters in Montana. The Marshall Legacy premiered in London on January 7th, 2027, and was released theatrically on February 4th; the film received generally positive reviews from critics, with Renner's performance and the action sequences being singled out for praise; however, it was criticized for its long runtime of 170 minutes as well as for its overly accurate and realistic portrayal of hunting. It grossed over $571 million worldwide, it made a net profit of approximately $92 million, and was box-office hit overall, becoming one of the most successful hunting films of all time. A sequel is in development, with Renner and Weisz set to return and Cara Delevingne set to star as the daughter of the characters portrayed by the formers.
