Melanie Paxson was born in Champaign, Illinois, and received her B.A. degree in theater from the University of Missouri. Relocating to Chicago, she received more training at the famed Second City and performed with another renowned theater troupe, Steppenwolf Theatre.
A beautiful mermaid called Ariel (Hallie Bailey) makes a deal with Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), a sea witch, to meet Eric ( Jonah Hauer-King), a human prince she falls in love with. However, unaware of Ursula's evil plans, Ariel ends up in trouble.
